Highlighter collection 2019

So I have a little obsession with make up and everything to do with make up, including blogs, vlogs, Instagram videos etc etc. So I thought why not show the small amount of make up I own and add to the list of loves I have in regards to make up. So I thought I’d try writing about it. That means I will be writing, watching and doing (??) make up!

Also before showing off the highlighters I have in my rather small collection I really can’t decide whether it’s make up or make-up. I think it’s make-up, but I reckon make up looks better. I also tried makeup but I don’t know ?????

Anyway, haha, here’s my collection. I will say what it is, give my opinion on it and then give it a rating out of 10 for its packaging and a rating out of 10 for the actual product.

I will start with saying I love both high end and drugstore make up which isn’t as obvious with highlighters as I only have 9, and then I also have a few compacts with highlight and bronzer but I have a mix when it comes to foundations and eye shadows etc which I may write about after this. That’s if anyone actually reads this at all.

Tartiest pro glow to go

I have already done quite an extensive review on this from when I first bought it so will not go into too much detail. As you can see, I have used this palette a lot. The highlighters are beautifully pigmented and the contour shade is great. It’s not too muddy or orange and is a perfect palette to go away with as it’s so light (In weight) but also has the perfect shades in. I have also used these on my eyes when I have forgotten eyeshadow which they work great for too.

Packaging: 10/10 (is light, has a mirror, doesn’t feel cheap)

Product: 10/10 (I would buy this again, so believe that is when a product deserves a top score)

Model Co. moonshine

So I subscribed to one of those fancy boxes that were £10 a month and I can’t remember the name of but I got this in one of those boxes. Side not: those subscription boxes are alright but you get a lot of crap you’d never really use (IMO).

This highlighter is okay, I do like it when I have a tan but it’s not a ‘BAM’ glow. I can’t put my finger on why, but I wouldn’t buy this as a full size product. It’s a nice goldy glow colour and I think it works well when you don’t have a lot of make up on, but you want a bit of a glow when going out in the sun.

Packaging: 7/10 (I can’t really rate this as it’s only the mini, but I do like it for travel)

Product: 7/10 (I like it, but not my favourite)

Sleek distorted dreams

I have a lot of sleek make up and when I first started to fall in love with make up, sleek was the brand I went for. I had A LOT. I bought this highlighter after loving my other palettes. However, I have never liked this palette. I find the colours clumpy, and ruins any make up around it by making it flaky and clumpy also. The colours are not really useable, although saying that I did know that before I bought it, but wanted it for a festival. So saying the colours aren’t usable is a bit of an unfair Criticism yet I will mention it anyway. The colours just didn’t have the same WOW that I am use to from other sleek products.

Packaging: 9/10 (the packaging is pretty, it has a mirror and there are multiple options within a small compact. Although the product is a bit messy and this can get all over the compact.)

Product: 4/10 (useable, but wouldn’t recommend)

Tarte spellbound glow

I bought this tarte highlighter due to loving my other one and this hasn’t disappointed me. As you can see by how much has gone, I have used it as my every day highlight. It’s a beautiful colour, nice on the skin and can either give a subtle glow or full blown highlight depending on how much you put on. I mix my brush around and put it on and it’s a beautiful shimmer that doesn’t break up on the skin. Depending on where you pick up more of the product depends on whether it’s more of a gold glow or pinky glow.

Packaging: 8/10 (I like the packaging, it’s small and compact, has a mirror but the logo has started to flake away on the front but then again, could be from putting in out of my make up bag.)

Product: 10/10 (I love it).

Ofra cloud 9

I have heard a lot about Ofra highlighters So was very excited about this product when I ordered it and it did not disappoint. It looks beautiful in the compact and on the skin. It’s a proper bang! I love it, maybe not for every day but for nights out it’s amazing. it was one of the more expensive highlighters I have bought however and although I think it’s amazing, some of the drug store ones I’ve had (past and present) aren’t too dissimilar.

Packaging: 10/10

Product: 10/10 (because it’s lovelyyyyyy)

Revolution rose gold liquid highlight

I wanted to try a liquid highlight and what better way to try it, than by buying a revolution one. It’s a good quality brand while being cheap! This highlight is okay, i don’t like it if I use it over foundation as it breaks it away but I quite like mixing it in with my foundation in the summer as it makes a beautiful shimmery finish to a foundation or moisturiser.

Packaging: 6/10 (it’s a bit messy and you can’t get the exact amount you want out of it)

Product: 7/10 (I don’t like it as a highlighter in the usual manner but I do like to mix with foundation so can’t say fairer than a 7).

Sleek cleopatra’s kiss

This is the first ever highlight I bought. The sleek highlight was like £6 and I thought it was amazing. I still do think it’s really good, but haven’t used it as much of late. It gives a bang and looks nice on the skin, and there’s different options in one palette, can’t complain about that can you?

Packaging: 10/10 (it’s pretty, different options, has a mirror)

Product: 10/10 (it allowed me to fall in love with highlight and it’s cheap!)

Nars albatross

Youtubers rave about nars and only yesterday I bought two highlighters from them. I bought this one which is beautiful!!!! It’s definitely a BAM highlight. It’s a nice shiny glow. The packaging is beautifully small, perfect for travel and it feels high end. The colour is pigmented and shows beautifully on the skin, it doesn’t break away on the skin, it sits nicely and can see this as being one of my new faves.

Packaging: 10/10

Product: 10/10 (first impressions are good!)

Nars Miss Liberty

This highlight was the one that disappointed me a little. It doesn’t have much pigment in it. It’s nice and glittery though and I’m excited to take it away for when I’m tanned. It may get better when I’ve tried it a bit more and maybe can use it for more of a natural glow when I feel like a BAM isn’t what I want. It does sit nicely on the skin both on natural skin and make up though.

Packaging: 10/10

Product: 8/10 (could improve when I have used it more).

I hope you have enjoyed my review of all my highlighters, I know that I’m not great at reviewing just yet but I hope I get better, and I hope you enjoyed reading it and take something from it.

Tarte Cosmetics First Impressions

Okay, so after hearing so much hype about Tarte cosmetics, especially ‘Tarte Shape Tape” concealer I decided to take the plunge and make the most out of free shipping for Mothers Day weekend!

I decided to order the Natural Artistry Faves colour set which included the Tarte Pro Glow Palette, the mini matte lip paint and mascara and for £2 instead of £27 (I think) I got the buffer airbrush finish foundation brush. Prices are shown below:

Obviously coming from America this took a little over a week to arrive which isn’t bad going and the packaging was so cute!

IMG_3191

It came in a sturdy box, with some cute tissue paper around all the items, which I thought was a nice touch.

The box the three items came in was also nice, with no signs of any damage to the box saying it came such a long way.

First impressions of the contour and highlight palette are good, it smells so nice and the packaging feels good quality. The contour shade is quite a warm matte medium brown which works really well for me and adds colour where I want it. The highlighters are stunning, particularly ‘burst’ which I have been reaching for every day since I bought it.

These swatches honestly do not do this palette justice. They are so pigmented and lovely on the skin, very easy to blend and lasts all day.

The matte lip paint is a beautiful nude shade that isn’t too drying and lasted all morning till I had to top up after eating. I have yet to try the mascara but it looks promising and I have heard some good things about it, so I am excited to give it a go.

Finally the brush. I have to say, I am not a massive fan of this brush, it’s a little too hard for my liking but it does look pretty and feels good quality. I have only tried it with powders so far so I will be trying it with my foundation soon, to see how it goes.

All in all, Tarte has impressed me with their highlight and contour palette, it feels good quality, it’s easy to blend and lasts all day. However, with the expensive shipping fees, I won’t be buying anything else till they are discounted again!

Urban Decay Distortion Eyeshadow Palette Review…

IMG_6131IMG_1231

I am a big fan of Urban Decay, especially their eyeshadows so I was very excited when I was gifted the Urban Decay Distortion palette for my birthday!

First impressions were great! The cardboard sleeve is extremely pretty and the casing of the eyeshadow is absolutely beautiful!

2018-03-13 13:57:55.405img_1536.jpg

This eyeshadow palette has 15 shades, weighing 0.06oz each and retailing for £39.50, which is pretty standard for Urban Decay!

There are a range of colours within the palette which I love because you can create both day and night looks, meaning when travelling around I don’t need to take more than one palette with me.

img_3264.jpg

From first impressions, I could tell I was going to love the ‘First Offense’ and ‘Velvet’ shades as a lover of all things pink and orange.

Urban Decay claim:

This isn’t your average eyeshadow palette. We arranged the colours in vertical trios; use them together or mix and match to create your own combinations. With 10 shades (nine are new!) and five transformer hues, you’ll never run out of options. The transformer shades in the top row are reflective pigments with different shifts. Wear the 10 traditional shades in the middle and bottom row alone or with the shifter shades on top.

So basically you can layer the eyeshadows to create a new look, pretty snazzy!

Swatches of: (from bottom up) Territorial / First Offence / Bleach / All three mixed

As I imagined these eyeshadows are extremely pigmented and I only needed to swirl my finger lightly around each one to create these amazing colours. As I suspected ‘First Offence’ is the one I fell in love with, however, I am a fan of all these shades mixed creating a gold look, perfect for an evening out!

IMG_7761
Swatches of: (From bottom up): Black Out / Hot Box / Shifty / All three mixed

I am not usually a big fan of dark coloured eyeshadows and was a little disappointed with ‘Black Out’ as a matte black, having better pigment from cheaper shadows such as from Sleek and Morphe, and this shadow also seemed a little grainy. However, where ‘Black Out’ let me down, ‘Hot Box’ I thought was lovely, especially when mixed with ‘Shifty’, which will definitely be used on the few times I am feeling a dark-eyed look!

IMG_0022
Swatches: (From bottom up) Old Smoke / 5.0 / Space / all three mixed

After all the other shadows being easy to swatch, ‘Old Smoke’ was a little grainy and took a little more to get the full colour from it, however, when I did, as seen above, it was beautiful, if a little powdery. ‘5.0’ and ‘Space’ were also a little thin and dry, and more diffcicult to apply but the colours are pretty and very shimmery so this makes up for it a little.

IMG_0849
Swatches (From bottom to top): Shag / Rogue / Mind Game / All three mixed

‘Shag’ is a silvery – lavender pink with gold sparkle and applied fairly easily to the skin, but it was a little powdery and grainy. While ‘Rogue’ applied extremely easily, with an amazing colour pay off, it might be my new favourite pink shadow! ‘Mind Game’ when mixed with the other two shadows created a beautiful shimmery lavender pink, which I think would look beautiful for a summery look.

IMG_1681
Swatched (From bottom up): Velvet / Trash Talk / Blur / all three mixed

WOW! ‘Velvet’ I have to say, I am impressed with, the pigment in this shadow is beautiful and easy to apply and blend with ‘Blur’ and I am very pleased with the outcome of these shadows mixed, the shade created I have been wearing all over my lid as a day look, and has lasted all day with no / minimal creasing! It creates an almost magenta coloured pink with lots of sparkle.

In conclusion, would I say this palette was worth it? As a general rule, yes. The idea of mixing the shades to create multidimensional hues is a great idea and I feel like I am getting more for my money and a palette I could travel with for any look. However, some of the shadows seem a little grainy and powdery which I am a little disappointed about but the pros outway the cons for me.

Shine like gold. Sparkle like glitter.
